The NIHC League is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants, including players, officials, volunteers, and spectators.
1. Our Commitment
We believe that everyone has the right to participate in sport free from abuse, harm, discrimination, or neglect. Safeguarding is the responsibility of all members of the league.
2. Who This Policy Applies To
- Players (including under 18s)
- Coaches and team staff
- Officials and referees
- Volunteers and organisers
3. Safeguarding Principles
- The welfare of children and vulnerable adults is paramount
- All participants are treated with respect and dignity
- All concerns are taken seriously and acted upon
- We work in line with UK safeguarding guidance
4. Responsibilities
The league will:
- Provide a safe environment for all participants
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns
- Promote good practice among teams and officials
All members must:
- Respect others and behave appropriately
- Report concerns or incidents promptly
- Follow league rules and codes of conduct
5. Reporting Concerns
Any safeguarding concern should be reported immediately to a league official or safeguarding lead. Concerns will be handled confidentially and appropriately.
If a child or vulnerable person is in immediate danger, contact emergency services (999).
6. Safeguarding Lead
The league has a designated safeguarding lead responsible for managing concerns and ensuring best practice.

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to ensure it remains effective and compliant.
